Hyundai sending Supercharged Genesis Hurricane SC to SEMA

Posted on 27th October 2011 in Hyundai

hyundai-supercharged-genesis-hurricaneHyundai will be fielding their well loved performance car the Hyundai Genesis to the SMEA which kicks off next week. In partnership with Hyundai American Technical Center, Rhys Millen Racing, Harman International, Torvec Inc, and Magnuson Products, Hyundai will send a steroid loaded Genesis Hurricane SC.

The technology implemented with the supercharger displays the potential of the V6 engine of the Genesis Coupe . The extra power translates to an increase of 35 to 45% in torque and horsepower which can be further tweaked to juice out more oomph.

We are sure that this Genesis will not just be a display figure with beautiful design lines but also walk the talk on the road.

Aside from the supercharger, the Genesis Hurricane SC is also coming in with an IsoTorque differential that will significantly improve traction and handling. Tested on the track, the improved differential translated to a second shaved off from the car’s lap time.

Looking away form the impressive engine bay, the Genesis Hurricane SC has along list of exterior and interior modifications. RMR provided the exterior improvements giving the car a new bumper, grille, side skirts, rear deck and spoiler, diffuser, hood, exhaust, and air intake. Hankook and Enkei tag teamed to give the Genesis a 19 inch rim and tire assembly.

Inside the car, Lexicon installed a high level audio system. Katzkin gave the seats some suede and leather.

The Hyundai Hurricane SC also has Bilstein shock absorbers that were tuned at the Nuburgring, Brembo brake kit, lightweight flywheel, DeatschWerks fuel pump, and a bunch of stuff to make the car cool even on the toughest conditions.

The Bugatti Veyron

Posted on 19th October 2010 in Bugatti

Returning to its roots in Molsheim, Alsace, France, the Bugatti Veyron is legendary just like its namesakes. Ettore Bugatti, the founder and driving force behind the iconic Bugatti name, and Pierre Veyron, 1939 Le Mans winner and Bugatti race car driver, would both be proud of the car that bears their names. Equally honorable is the fact that the Veyron was chosen to showcase one hundred years of history with the 2009 Bugatti Veyron Bleu Centenaire Edition worth approximately US$2,019,195.00 (just over two million dollars).

Introduced at the 1999 Tokyo Motor Show, the first Veyron was the EB 18.4 concept car featuring the W18 engine with three banks of six cylinders. By the 2001 Geneva Motor Show, Volkswagen (owner of Bugatti since 1998) announced that the Bugatti EB 16.4 Veyron was coming. Built with the W16 engine comprised of two V-8 cylinder banks, the 8.0 liter, four-wheel drive, carbon-fiber monocoque chassis Veyron would be hand-assembled just like previous race cars. It was estimated that it would be the fastest road-legal car ever, reaching speeds of 250 mph with an incredible start up of 185 mph in 14.0 seconds.

Obviously an exotic vehicle, as production is extremely limited and most people in this world  cannot afford such an exuberant purchase, the Veyron has been created in several different models. For 2007, the Special Edition Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Pur Sang was a throwback to the great Bugatti racing era where cars were plain and not painted. Its two-tone color is derived from the outer shell made of aluminum alloy and the body of carbon fiber. Originally, only five cars were to be built but as soon as it launched in Dubai, six were rumored to sell the first day.

The 2008 EB 16.4 Veyron Sang Noir painted in black with hand-stitched leather orange (tangerine) interior is a masterful combination of elegance and functionality. For customers who wish to personalize their cars, according to the official Bugatti website, they may choose other colors from the company’s interior range. The car proudly displays the traditional Bugatti “horseshoe” grill on the front of the car and the EB badge with the backward “E” and forward “B” on the side of the car just to the rear of the door.

My Favorite F1 Car of All Time, the 1978 Ligier Matra

Posted on 15th September 2010 in Ligier

The 1978 Ligier Matra is by far the most exciting F1 car in racing history (okay, I might be opinionizing a little here, but hey, it’s MY blog!) — the combination of great looks and brute sounds is just incredible.

YouTube Preview Image

The painful part of all of this however is that today, Ligier cars are plastic boxes aimed at people too stupid to get a driver’s license. YUK!

Latest Supercar from Ferrari gets a V8 Engine

Posted on 10th May 2010 in Ferrari

Unlike BMW, Ferrari won’t be using carbon fiber that extensively, not until the company wholly understands the material’s long-term reliability. This was announced by Ferrari hear Amadeo Felisa, who also said no to recent questions about a possible Ferarri four-door model.

Yellow Ferrari EnzoWhen interviewed, Felisa explained that carbon fiber will only be used on Ferrari’s most exotic cars. This includes the Enzo and the F50 which have a significantly low production rate and are not used daily by its owners. The company isn’t prepared to risk the use of carbon fiber, though, for the rest of the model range.

Meanwhile, its rival McLaren, recently announced that it will be committed to the use of carbon fibers in the cars that it will be releasing in 2012. As a matter of fact, McLaren told reporters that the MP4-12C supercar will be released with a carbon tub.

BMW, on the other hand, will be releasing models extensively using carbon fiber starting 2013. Felisa explained that Ferrari’s stance has a lot to do with safety. He said that no one really knows how carbon fiber would stand in 20 to 30 years. If the body or structure of the car is sacrificed because of the carbon fiber trend, Ferrari’s integrity would be sacrificed.

NLV Quant supercar graces the Geneva Motor Show

Posted on 3rd March 2010 in Koenigsegg, NLV Solar

NLV QUANT TEASERExtreme is the only word in the dictionary that might fit the supercars produced by Koenigsegg. The newest member of their garage is the Quant which was uncovered as a full scale unit last year. The Quant will be unveiled at the on going Geneva Motor Show but it will be NLV that is all behind this speed monster.

The Quant is the brainchild of the NLV Solar AG known for their advancements in photovoltaic technology and electrical power. The NLV was the firm that hired Koenigsegg to conceptualize the electric supercar of the future on their drawing boards and test labs. The collaboration gave birth to the 4 seater solar-electric NLV Quant. The NLV Quant will be the production unit that is showcased in Geneva.

The electric motor uses AC conduction to transfer all the power to the rear wheels. The motors sum up some 512 horsepower to make the Quant blast from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds. The supercar has a torque of 527 pound feet and a top speed of 170 mph.

The layout of the two electric motors gives the car a very consistent ride whether you choose the coast mode or the drive mode. The weight of the car was also kept at the lower part of the scales by using a chassis made of carbon fiber.

The batteries of the car will be utilizing a Flow Accumulator Energy Storage or FAES which may add some 450 kg to it but the good side is that it will not be using heavy metals that might be dangerous to the human body.
